As a family we are doing our first walk for congenital heart association. This is something I hold very close to my heart. We are walking and raising money in honor of my son who has been directly impacted by congenital heart disease. My son knows how blessed he is so he walks for those who are far worse off than he is. I wish I could take Michael condition on myself so wouldn’t have to go through this is walking for My son, Michael, was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation almost three years ago. A Fib is pretty common in adults 50+ but it’s very rare in pediatrics. Michael was a perfectly healthy 15 year old athletic boy , no family history , no signs something was wrong. We went on a family vacation and Michael and I weren’t feeling well when we got home. Michael started to lose his taste and smell and said I should go get tested for COVID. My boyfriend said rest I’ll take him to the walk in to get tested. Upon arriving they listen to his vitals and the Doctor proceeded to explain she was extremely concerned by his high heart rate, the rhythm, and he needed to immediately go to the ER. Everything changed that day. Michael had COVID as did I and we spent the next 7 days in the PICU. I couldn’t leave his side if I stepped out of his room I couldn’t return and for those of you that know me know that wasn’t happening. I sat in the room a he was put under general anesthesia preformed TEE and cardio version (shock his heart into rhythm). Thank God we were blessed with the most amazing cardiologist. It took a week but they got medicine regulated and we left to go home. It was as if I had a new born again I don’t think I slept for months. I go check his heart rate on his Apple Watch every hour so worried he’d return to A Fib. Several months later he was put under again to try to co the heart but the location was too risky after 5 hours of surgery they decided it was doing more damage the procedure wasn’t successful. Months later he was approved to get a heart monitor surgically implanted and this was a gift from God. Every heart beat us tracked and studied and and Michael condition is being used as a study to learn more about COVID related disease. Michael has done exceptionally well he’s so strong and positive and he’s my hero. A few weeks ago we were back in THE PICU. Michael was back in A-Fib and had to go through the procedures again and increased in medication and lots of monitoring post op. It’s not a question of if he will have to go through this again but when!! I wowed to do anything I can to support his disease. IF YOU ARE ABLE PLEASE MAKE A DONATION NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL.
