Maverick Kevin McFadden was born on May 21, 2021. During the routine check up with the hospital pediatrician, she hear a murmur and recommended he have an ekg and from there an echo was completed. On May 23, 2021, he was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve and mild aortic stenosis. At his first cardiologist appointment, his stenosis went from mild to critical and he had his first valvuloplasty at three weeks old. His second procedure came quickly after at eight weeks old. This time, his valve was too plasticky and difficult to open, which caused regurgitation (leakage). Our every two week cardiology appointments turned into every month, every 6 weeks, every two months, and now every four months. While he is stable and continues to fight his battle, his little heart gains more issues. He is now diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve, moderate aortic stenosis and regurgitation, a mild dilation of his ascending aorta, and mild hypertrophy of his left ventricle. While at times the journey is difficult, I know how truly blessed we are. We are lucky to have our mischievous, giggly, sweet boy with us.
