This year is a very special milestone for our family—our first Heart Walk.

In March 2024, at just four months old, Rory underwent open-heart surgery after being diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart defect, at only five weeks old. Thanks to life-saving medical advancements and the extraordinary care he received at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Rory is thriving today. He’s grown into the most joyful, curious, silly, and resilient little boy—all because that surgery gave him the chance to do so.

AJ and I are walking this year as a way to show our endless gratitude. The months leading up to surgery, the day itself, and the recovery that followed were among the hardest experiences of our lives.

Through it all, Rory’s strength—even as a baby—was nothing short of inspiring. We cherish every smile, snuggle, and giggle, knowing how lucky we are to live these everyday moments with him.

The Heart Walk is a chance for us to honor what our family has been through, to celebrate Rory’s strength, and to say thank you—to the doctors, researchers, loved ones, and supporters who made his recovery possible. As parents of a Heart Warrior, we’re shapend by this experience, and joining this Heart community feels like an especially meaningful milestone. Later this month, Rory will have his first echocardiogram since surgery, and we’re eager to hear more about how his repaired heart is doing. Keep rooting for Rory’s very special heart—or his “hearty,” as he calls anything heart-shaped (heart Cheerios, heart stuffies, heart socks—you name it).
