My sister Sloane is so cool--like so, so cool. She has the best makeup, she casts spells, she's really creative, and she shares everything with me. She's also crazy tough. Just weeks before I was born, I hung out in mom's belly while Sloane was in the hospital having two open heart surgeries one week apart. Of course I couldn't see anything but boy could I hear! Sissy went through some gruesome stuff and I heard lots of crying. But I also heard lots of determination (now don't ask me what determination sounds like--I'm only three!). And once I was born, I was her and mom's sidekick going to all of Sloane's appointments. So when I say my sister is tough, trust me, she is tough--I've seen it and been right there by her side for so much more than most little sisters get to see. Not only do I love her, I admire her and I've only ever known life with her in it, and I'm scared that one day that might change. You see, Sissy has this really long sounding issue with her heart that basically means the left side of her heart never formed. It's crazy when you think of it. She has critical congenital heart defects (CHDs) and she is not alone. In fact, 25% of babies with a critical CHD do not see their first birthday. The only reason Sloane saw her first birthday and is still here to fight the fight is because of research and medical and surgical advancements. That kind of progress comes at a cost and I humbly ask you to support my fundraising efforts so all these super smart people can keep doing what they do best and help people like my sister Sloane.
