Here is a HEARTfelt reminder to please donate to Isla’s fundraiser to support congenital heart defect awareness.
Isla was born with a heart defect called Transposition of Great Arteries (TGA), and we didn’t know it. A joyful time quickly turned into frantic heartbreak when a Code Blue landed Isla in the ICU. My OBGYN admitted that she had missed it in the anatomy scans and took full responsibility for the painful omission. I never imagined this would be her “birth” story. Fast forward 10 days later -- Isla had life-saving open heart surgery by Dr. Jeffrey Heinle at TCH. Fast forward 7 years later -- she is a happy and healthy thriving 2nd grader who loves reading, tennis, and spending time with family and friends. We are so blessed to have our beautiful, vivacious daughter and want to take this opportunity to spread awareness for congenital heart defects (CHD). Did you know?:
Approximately 8 out of every 1,000 babies born in the United States each year have a congenital heart defect.
This means that around 40,000 infants are born with a CHD in the US every year.
CHD is more common than you may think, and more research is needed to understand the causes and advance care and treatment options. Please consider donating to this important cause near and dear to our hearts.
