On December 14, 2016, my husband and I hit the worst moment of our lives….we had to say goodbye to our daughter, Michelle Elizabeth, at 24 weeks of my pregnancy due to complications arising from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. After a long night of physical and emotional pain, as I held my daughter, whose heart was no longer beating, my husband played my favorite song (which already had helped me through some tough times in my life) by my favorite group. Suddenly, the opening line - “So many words for the broken heart…” - had so many more meanings for me. My daughter’s heart was physically broken. Our hearts were figuratively broken. Since then I have been dedicated to raising funds for The Children’s Heart Foundation to advance and support the research on Congenital Heart Defects in hopes that another family does not have to ever go through what we did.
