David’s commitment to making a difference has led me to participate in the Congenital Heart Walk, an event that carries immense significance for me. It's not just a walk; it's a stride toward changing lives. This endeavor is all about supporting The Children's Heart Foundation and their crucial mission - advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects through groundbreaking research.

 
I now know of two children that were born with only half a working heart- a condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). Baby Elijah has now had three open heart surgeries and Baby Cai has had two open heart surgeries and the third surgery will be in the near future. The surgeries began at only five days old, and then another surgery followed at four months old and hopefully the final surgery at about age three. 
 

Two of the men in our Tuesday night Bible study have a child and grandchild born with this rare condition. The stories we hear are heart wrenching  and tear dropping of what it is like to be that father or that grandfather of that child. We hear about how the Mom feels as their newly born baby needs to have open heart surgery just after being born. Our daughter Anna Marie almost had open heart surgery at Stanford due to two big holes in her heart. Anna barely weighed 5 pounds and surgery was scheduled and on the books. By the grace of God "our Heavenly Father" one of the holes sealed and the other hole Anna's cardiologist monitors every year.

Having a child born with any type congenital heart condition is overwhelming as a parent.
 I ask you to keep Baby Cai, Elijah, Anna Marie, all these children and parents in your prayers. 
God never said that we will not face trials in life but that He will always be beside us as we face them. These trials give us perseverance, strength and make us stronger in our faith and love for God each day.
