I’m walking in honor of my two sons, Emmett and Ozzy — our little heart warriors. Not long after they were born, we learned they both had congenital heart defects that would require ongoing care, monitoring, and in Ozzy’s case, surgery very early in life.

Ozzy was diagnosed with a large ventricular septal defect (VSD) that made it hard for his tiny body to breathe, eat, and grow. At just a few weeks old, he underwent open heart surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Today, he’s doing incredibly well, and watching him grow stronger and thrive has been such a gift. He’ll continue to be monitored throughout his life, but right now we’re thankful every day for how far he’s come.

Emmett’s journey looks a little different. He has a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) that will be repaired later this year through a catheter-based procedure. We’re hopeful for a smooth recovery, but we also know firsthand how important access to expert care, research, and support is for families going through this.

That’s why this walk is so important to me. It’s about helping kids like Emmett and Ozzy have the opportunity to grow up healthy, strong, and full of life — and helping other families feel supported along the way.
