Hi everyone!

I'm Marissa Ann Mellott and i'm a heart warrior!! I am 5 years old but on March 21st I will turn 6. In March of 2018, my mommy and daddy found out I had AVSD with mitral valve regurgitation. That sure is alot of big words! It means I had a big hole between the upper chambers of my heart and a small hole between the bottom chambers of my heart. There were things wrong with my mitral and tricuspid valves as well. On April 23, 2018 I went to Penn State Children's Hospital to have open heart surgery. Dr. Clark was my surgeon. Mommy and daddy said he was amazing because he saved my life!!  I was there 4 days and home I went. What an awesome place!!!! That's when we found out about the Children's Heart Foundation! Because of all of their research, lots of kids...and me.... can h'ave a new lease on life, living longer, healthier, and happier lives! This year will be my 5th heart walk!! I am so excited! I get to see some old friends and meet some new friends. The Hershey Heart Walk is the best! It's filled with remarks from people at the CHF, remarks from doctors, music and dancing, remembrance, food and lots more fun-filled activities for us kids!

Last year's walks nationwide raised around 1.5 million dollars! That's amazing!! We can do better this year!!! With your support, CHF can continue to provide the needed funded research and scientific collaborations needed to improve survival rates, longevity, and quality of life. You can't begin to imagine just how many children have been affected by CHD until you are part of such a special event as this! I hope you'll join me by supporting my fundraising efforts as I work to raise funds for life-saving research.
