Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) are among the most common types of birth defects worldwide. These defects involve structural issues in the heart that can range from mild to life-threatening, and they remain a leading cause of infant mortality. In the United States alone, more than 40,000 babies are born each year with some form of CHD — roughly 1 in every 100 babies. Based on general population statistics, we can estimate that approximately 6 of CalPeco’s fifty thousand customers’ babies are born with a CHD every year. CHDs are not just statistics — they affect people in our own community, including friends, family members, and loved ones.
While advances in diagnosis and treatment have improved survival rates, ongoing medical research is crucial for discovering better treatments, enhancing early detection, and ultimately preventing CHDs. The Children’s Heart Foundation’s mission is to fund the most promising research in these areas, providing hope for better outcomes for children affected by CHDs.
